Medik8 PRETOX Eyelift

Medik8 PRETOX Eyelift

PRETOX Eyelift is a professional strength anti-ageing eye gel designed to combat dark circles, puffiness, fine lines and uneven tone. It is formulated with four peptides: Reguage; Haloxyl; Tetrapeptide (Rigin) and Pentapeptide (Matrixyl) and is packaged in a 15ml hygienic pump dispenser.

This did a great job at leaving the eye area refreshed and moisturised and although I do not have ‘bags’ as such i do feel that any puffiness had diminshed in as little as 2 weeks. My dark circles however are hereditary and I have come to the conclusion that nothing is going to eradicate them. Having said that they are not that bad so perhaps someone with a more severe case would notice a difference after the recommended 6 weeks of use am and pm. Fine lines and winkles are not much of a problem for me yet so I cannot comment on its effectiveness in this area.

My only gripe is the slight smell of alcohol upon application (Alcohol Denat is second on the list of ingredients) but this soon dissipates and has caused no irritation to date. Also be careful not to apply too much as this can cause any make up to ‘pill’.

All in all this is a good product at a very good price and one which I would purchase in future.

My nearest stockist is Heaven Spa in Didsbury. To purchase online see http://www.heaven-spa.co.uk/acatalog/medik8-prelift-15ml.html#a386

For anyone interested in the formulation this is my take on the science behind the ingredients:

Reguage consists of purified rice and soy peptides and rice protein. It assists with blood circulation in the area whilst strengthening the connective tissue (which consists of collagen and elastin). The degeneration of this connective tissue is what results in fine lines and winkles. Reguage also helps to eliminate free radicals which are now thought to be responsible for the ageing of the skin too. These small unstable molecules which have been generated by oxygen and sunlight, damage the collagen by breaking it down and then re-linking the collagen back up but in a different way (cross linking). Instead of being flexible the collagen becomes rigid.

In trials carried out with 20 subjects applying 5% Reguage twice a day for 8 weeks the following was observed:

dark circles were reduced by up to 35%
eye puffiness was reduced by up to 31%
the texture of the skin was improved by up to 42%.

Haloxyl is a combination of ingredients that target dark circles by breaking down accumalated haemoglobin by-products in the eye area. In a study of 22 subjects applying a 2% gel over a 56 day period it was found that there was an improvement in the look of dark circles by as much as 60%.

Rigin (Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-3) has been shown to help suppress the production of excess interleukins in the body. Interleukins are chemical messengers that trigger the body’s acute anti inflammatory response to aggressors and is an important function. However as we age this defence mechanism becomes flawed and the inflammatory response is triggered without stimuli (such as UV light). This results in higher levels of the anti inflammatory protein in the area which impairs normal healing and impacts on collagen, elastin and other proteins in the skin.

The pentapeptide Matrixyl is aimed at moderate to deep wrinkles . A study over a six month period revealed that deep wrinkle depth reduced by an average of 68% with moderate wrinkle depth averaging a reduction of 51%. Women in the trial reported the eye area to be more moisturised and smooth and noticed a difference in the depth of their wrinkles.
